Description

"Close your tired eyes
Relax and then
Count from one to ten
and open them
All these heavy thoughts will try to weigh you down
But not this time
Way up in the air
You're finally free
And you can stay up there
Right next to me
All this gravity will try to pull you down,
But not this time

When the sun goes down and the lights burn out
Then it's time for you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are
Fill the darkest night with a brilliant light
'Cause its time for you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are... tonight
Woah, Woah, Woah
Brighter than a shooting star
Shine no matter where you are... tonight"

OWL CITY - SHOOTING STAR LYRICS

This piece took forever to shade -w-

but it came out rather good in the end.

For kittenfox for all the times you pulled me out of my sadness and cheered me up. You are silly and amazing! You have done nothing but make me smile. You have no idea how much I want to give you a hug <3 Thanks for being a wonderful friend Raven! Me and you will become Shooting star together ;p

Stunning is the word of the day! Because this piece, too, is visually stunning, like geez. The night sky is just gorgeous, and the shooting stars are beautiful. (The one blue streak to the bottom right is a nice frame as well.) There's such warmth and energy and happiness in the atmosphere. The way you've illustrated the lack of gravity through the hair and clothing is done so nicely. It really adds to the tone of the piece--lighter than air, not dragged down any more. You pulled that off very well.

My only gripe would be that I don't quite understand the almost-double image in the cloud. I tend to read the image as your friend pulling you up from this miasma of despair. If the cloud represents sadness and gloominess, why is this happy image of seeing the friend inside the cloud? And if the cloud represents your thoughts (while your eyes are closed), perhaps there should be dozens of other sad images below inside the cloud that the current one is dimming or softening. It all depends on what you're going for. (I do really like the choice to leave the lower half of Shushi unshaded, however. You're being pulled up into another dimension of fullness and brightness.)

...That was kind of a long paragraph, but don't let it deter you! This is gorgeous work. 8D :iconyourockplz:
